Bike of the future proposed as China's last hope against smog...

In the run-up to the Beijing Olympics the chief concern for many athletes has been the poor air quality, prompting the government to enact a myriad of odd new measures to decrease pollution.

Perhaps a look at Jamie Tomkins 2020 hybrid bicycle might have helped. Mocked up as a concept vehicle a couple of years ago for a GE Plastics Automotive competition, the bike was designed specifically to address China's pollutions problems. The vehicle would be constructed from cheap metals and plastics sporting a design that would be sure woo a significant portion of Chinese motorists into picking up the futuristic two-wheeler.

Now if they could just design a robust breathing mask that would allow cyclists to use the bike without getting black lung during their commute they might have a winner.
